Hack of the Week

Crystal is a Gmail plugin that scans the digital footprint for whoever you are emailing, and determines their communication style with about 80% accuracy. It then will dynamically suggest better ways to compose your email (i.e. "Lucy is impatient, delete the emoji, use bullet points, keep the content to less than 7 sentences.")

What is a personal piece of advice (business advice/saying/quote) that you lean on and could pass on to others?

Say no. a lot. I’ve shifted perspective to celebrating when I’ve said no, because it’s intentionally choosing something else.

Best business book you’ve ever read?

Well, I’m not really into “bests” because I’m not very reflective, I’m always moving forward. So a few that I’ve gotten a lot out of in the past year : "No Ego," "The Ultimate Sales Machine," and "Essentialism"

One misstep you took in your business that you could caution others about?

Sometimes we only see the best in employees, and our growth goal for them (and even if they state it for themselves) might actually be beyond their ability or personality type. The loyalty and desire might be there, but that doesn’t get the job done, nor benefit your company. We’ve had some long standing employees who were great members of the team for their position and the company’s direction at a time, that then at a new growth position and new season of our company were just no longer a fit. With tenure, that can be emotionally tricky, if there is no longer the right position for them for where you’re going; and ultimately it’s better for you and better for them to find that better fit elsewhere.

How to you de-stress after a particularly hard day?

good wine and Netflix / HBO / Amazon.

What EO event are you most looking forward to attending in the next few months?

The Holiday Party, so I can see everyone!

What’s something about you that would surprise everyone reading this?

In the 7th grade I got a “dance extra” part in the Jerry Lee Lewis “Great Balls of Fire” movie (1989), made a whopping $300, and ended up being the photo that ran in US! magazine with the movie review. It was and is the entirety of my movie career. IMBD has yet to credit me.

Any exciting plans for Fall that you would like to share?

Next week is our Cuba forum retreat! And in four weeks our family is traveling to Fukuoka, Japan to visit my new nephew!
